Sustainability at MHR: a look into our action in the last three months of 2025
From shouting about the importance of healthy, sustainable foods to donating Christmas gifts to vulnerable children, we’ve been busy giving back to our local community.
At MHR, we believe in the importance of responsible and sustainable actions, and we’ve been proud to support some brilliant, impactful charities and initiatives. The months before Christmas are always an especially busy time for us, and here are some of our highlights from the campaigns we have run.
World Food Day
In October, we put the spotlight on the impact that food can have on our health and on the planet by celebrating World Food Day, run by the United Nation’s Food and Agriculture Organisation.
Partnering with our fantastic local caterers, Olive Catering Services, we spent the week leading up to World Food Day highlighting the importance of sustainable food practises, such as sourcing food locally, and creating as little food waste as possible.
On World Food Day itself, Olive put on a special sustainable menu for us, and there was an extra food bar open in our restaurant, showing people what they could do to turn common items of food that are normally thrown away into tasty, nutritious meals.
We also created a fun quiz for people to do around the office, so that they could test how much they really knew about the impact of food on our health and on our planet. Did you know, for example, that 33% of all the food we grow or produce each year is lost or wasted?
Movember
In November, we ran a month-long campaign in support of men’s physical and mental health with Movember. Over 50 of our fantastic colleagues took up the call, whether growing a moustache or taking part in Move for Movember – running, walking, swimming, or cycling a total of 60km over the course of the month.
There were some fantastic moustaches cultivated, and collectively we travelled over 6000km as part of our Move for Movember campaign. To put it into context, that’s further than the distance between Nottingham and Toronto, which is a fantastic effort.
As well as raising money, throughout the month we also ran a video series aiming to promote awareness and encourage conversations about the importance of physical and mental health. We asked men and women from around MHR what they did to protect their health and their happiness, and we had answers including reconnecting with nature, playing sports, and spending time with family and friends.
Christmas charity initiatives
In the weeks before Christmas, we supported two fantastic charities. In support of The Trussel Trust, and families struggling over winter, we ran a food drive around MHR, collecting 36kg of tinned food, pasta, rice, and jarred sauces.
And in support of vulnerable children, we ran a campaign for Kids Out with their Giving Tree, donating Christmas gifts to children living in refuge. We displayed 100 gift tags on our Christmas tree in reception, and we were inundated with donations. In total all of the tags were taken, and people were so keen to help that we donated far over 100 gifts.
One particularly heart-warming highlight was seeing some of our teams choosing to collect gift tags from the tree and make donations rather than running a secret santa between themselves.
A good year
Our Christmas charity initiatives bought an end to our sustainability action in 2025. It was a year we were lucky enough to support several charities and campaigns, whether the three above, or others earlier on, such as Mind and Wear it Pink. And now our attention is firmly on 2026, and we look forward to spending another fantastic year giving back to those who need it.
