BMet chooses MHR to power its digital people transformation
Birmingham Metropolitan College (BMet), a major further and higher education provider with around 1,000 staff across multiple campuses in Birmingham, has selected MHR to drive its next-generation HR, payroll and workforce transformation.
With five locations and a workforce made up of salaried employees and hourly paid associates on a range of different working patterns, BMet had been relying on an assortment of systems to manage HR, payroll, workforce management and compliance. As the college embarks on a broader digital transformation, they recognised the need for a unified “people system” that could replace multiple tools and provide a flexible foundation for further development.
During a formal tender process, MHR’s offering scored highest across functionality, in particular, the ability to address complexities specific to the education sector.
The decision was not just about replacing software, but about enabling a shift in how people, processes and data interact.
BMet has subscribed to a wide array of modules including the core HR and payroll engines, e‑signatures, compliance tools, case‑management, paid time and rostering. Beyond that, the college is adopting a suite of analytics apps, from gender pay gap reporting to advanced payroll analytics, to establish gold‑standard reporting and a more strategic view of workforce data.
Alison Jones, Director of People & Culture at BMet, commented: “We view this as a people system project, not just an IT implementation. Our aim is to integrate systems and elevate the way we manage our workforce across sites, contracts and roles. MHR offers the flexibility we need to shape the system around BMet’s unique workforce, rather than forcing us into a one-size-fits-all solution."
Implementation go live is planned for April 2026, marking a significant milestone in BMet’s journey toward a more connected, data-driven approach to managing people in education.
