The MHR Show: Recapping Learning Tech 2025: how is AI changing learning?

In this episode of the MHR Show, hear from the team at our Learning Technologies 2025 stand as they discuss what they’re learning at the event. Back at the studio, Grace Godfrey and Ash EL Menshawy, two of MHR’s speakers this year, unpack some of their key takeaways from the event, including:

  • The value that AI will bring to employee learning

  • The increased demand for bite-sized learning content

  • How organisations can personalise each employee’s learning journey

News from MHR’s Learning lounge at Learning Tech 2025

At the MHR stand, Andy catches up with Ali Abdalrahman, one of our Junior Java Software Engineers involved in the development of People First Learning. Ali mentions just how many organisations are now integrating AI into their learning software, particularly for creating learning content and courses.

Bite-sized learning is also on the rise, and it’s making learning a whole lot more engaging! With easy access to short form learning content, employees can begin to integrate learning into their busy schedules without disrupting their daily flow of work. Organisations are also seeing the need for more data behind employee learning to identify skills gaps in the business and opportunities for development.

AI is transforming learning technology

Grace notes that AI has become the latest buzzword, saying that it’s now time to focus on the value it brings to our workplace and whether it’s actually driving us forward and empowering our people.

Ash adds that for AI to be effective in the workplace, it should do at least one of the following:

  • Save time on tasks

  • Serve up information at a faster rate

  • Provide us with brand new information we can apply to our work

For example, we've built in an AI recommender into our own People First Learning platform that suggests related content to an employee once they’ve consumed learning content or completed a course, making the learning journey easier and more engaging for the individual.

Empowering employees to take more ownership of their learning

Learning technology is now at a place where employees can use it to take ownership of their own skills development. Companies aren’t telling individuals what they should be learning; instead, using an LXP, employees can take learning into their own hands by building their own playlists or pathways.

This change means that employees are now more interested and engaged in what they’re learning and have more control over their own growth and development. Learning technology has moved beyond compliance and mandatory course completion; it’s now enabling employees to identify areas they want to upskill in and giving them the tools and content they need to achieve this.

Connecting learning to wider business goals

Ash also mentions the importance of connecting wider business goals with employee learning using a unified HR and learning system. People First allows you to map an individual’s learning journey with the targets for the business, leading to better retention rate and cutting recruitment costs. Investing in learning also boosts employee engagement; when you show your employees you’re committed to their development, they’ll feel valued and are therefore more likely to stay with you for longer.

Our ‘Secrets of High Performance’ report, based on our latest research, also revealed that a culture of learning and growth is one of the key drivers of high performance in any organisation. There's never been a better time to invest in employee learning if you want to drive high performance in your business!

Unifying HR and learning with People First Learning

Instead of navigating between multiple platforms for HR and learning, many organisations are now opting for an integrated system that gives them a holistic view. For example, with People First, employee check ins link automatically with their learning, making it easier for managers to track performance and development.
