MHR celebrates International Women's Day 2023

Employees across the business gathered to celebrate the inspirational women in their lives.

Each year, International Women's Day recognises the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women globally. It also marks a call to action for gender equality and the advancement of women's rights. People all over the world come together to celebrate women's contributions to society, recognise the challenges they still face, and commit to creating a more equal world for all.

Over the past week, employees have been encouraged to think about women who inspire them. Watch our video to find out who inspires us here

We celebrated International Women's Day with a company-wide breakfast. Employees were invited to come together and acknowledge the contributions of women both in their personal and work lives. Chairman, Jessica Mills, made a speech which highlighted the importance of equity and our joint responsibility to continue to foster an equitable environment.

The theme of this years’ IWD campaign is #EmbraceEquity. The aim of the campaign is to get us thinking about why equal opportunities aren’t enough. People start from different places and backgrounds, so true inclusion and belonging requires equitable action.

Equality refers to treating everyone the same, regardless of their circumstances or needs. In this sense, equality assumes that everyone starts from the same position and that the same opportunities should be available to everyone.

Equity, on the other hand, recognises that not everyone has the same starting point or the same needs. Equity is about providing individuals with the resources, support, and opportunities they need to overcome barriers and achieve their full potential.

Whilst equality aims to treat everyone the same, equity recognises that not everyone starts in the same place and that different groups may require different levels of support to achieve fairness and justice.
