According to the annual workplace survey, which honours and celebrates the UK’s top employers and workplaces for employee engagement and wellbeing, MHR is recognised in the category of Big Organisations (250-1,999 employees).
To achieve a high overall employee engagement score in the survey an organisation must perform well across six areas of reward and recognition, instilling pride, information sharing, empowerment, wellbeing and job satisfaction.
Jessica Mills, Chairman of MHR, said: “Our commitment to creating a work environment where everyone has the opportunity to learn, develop and thrive remains as strong as it did when the company was established by my father, John Mills, in 1984. Nurturing and motivating teams is vital to us when it comes to retaining and attracting high performing talent.
“To be listed in these prestigious rankings, which recognise organisations who have consistently high levels of employee experience and wellbeing, is extremely rewarding. By empowering our employees, they can be armed to shape their careers; they can be inspired, they can flourish, and we can all celebrate their achievements together.”
MHR’s investment in its people is an embedded strategic objective for the independent, privately owned, family-run business as it continues to grow.
MHR currently has a 916-strong workforce. Highlighting its focus and investment in home-grown talent alongside new hires, the company welcomed over 200 new hires and promoted 120 employees in 2024 alone to meet the growing demands of the business.
To help empower employees with the knowledge and expertise to enable them to upskill and excel in their roles, the company launched the MHR Academy in 2022 – a statement of intent at the time by MHR as to its long-term investment in its people in terms of skills and talent management.
The MHR Academy provides comprehensive development pathways aimed at enhancing individual careers and the long-term growth of the business through skills and innovation. This can play an important role in employee-retention and feeds back into MHR’s track record of long service in the workplace.
MHR’s commitment to create an environment where employees can thrive is reflected in the fact that over 20% of employees have been with the company for more than 10 years. Longevity in the workplace is recognised and celebrated every year at the company with an annual Long Service lunch.
The company’s CEO, Anton Roe, joined MHR as an intern on a youth training scheme in the 1990s. His rise through the ranks showcases the opportunities open to employees at the company who have ambition, a desire to learn, adapt and upskill throughout their careers.
