MHR Supports Oulton’s Future Rugby Stars

Oulton Raiders Under 13s rugby team experienced what it’s like to train alongside elite athletes recently after securing sponsorship from MHR to fund a once-in-a-lifetime training and residential camp at Lilleshall National Sports Centre.

The three day trip at the renowned sports facility, a training base for sporting excellence which has produced gold-medal Olympians and Paralympians including gymnasts Max Whitlock, Bryony Page and Beth Tweddle, provided the chance for the youngsters to spend time together as a team and work on their positional play and core skills, through a combination of classroom lessons, training sessions and fun games.

Coach Rob Kirk says: “The chance to visit a world-class facility like Lilleshall as a team does not come along very often, and would not have been possible without the kind generosity shown by MHR.

“To be given the opportunity to take our team away for an intensive three days of training was invaluable for their development as young rugby league players. As well as developing their rugby skills, the trip taught them essential life skills such as teamwork, communication, self-awareness and decision making by living, training, eating and socialising with one other.

“With our players going to different schools and living in different areas of the city it was a brilliant opportunity for them to spend time together as a group and strengthen team spirit which is so vital in team sport.”

As well as subsidising the Raiders Under 13s’ trip to Lilleshall, the Nottingham-based company has also provided the junior team with two training kits for the session and also a new main kit for the season.

Vince Wood, Chief Commercial Officer at MHR says: “We are proud to support a grass roots club that is central to the local community in its local area and is committed to investing in the development of youngsters both as individuals and rugby stars of the future, which matches our own ethos as a HR firm.

“The trip to Lilleshall sounded great fun, and I have no doubt that the teambuilding trip will translate into winning performances on the pitch.

“We look forward to following the Raiders results in MHR colours and hopefully seeing some of the team playing in Super League or, even better, International colours one day!”
