The MHR Show: McIntyre’s People First journey

This week on the MHR Show we invited one of our customers, Heather Robinson, into the studio to discuss her organisation’s success with People First.

As McIntyre Compliance Services’ Head of People and Culture, Heather oversees people and culture strategy, managing a team of HR professionals. Join her and Beth Fear, Account Manager at MHR, as they discuss the ways that People First has helped the organisation connect a remote workforce, streamline HR processes, and provide managers with real-time data at their fingertips.

What initially attracted you to People First?

Heather explains that her team were looking for a platform that could be a one-stop-shop for HR, line managers, and employees. As most of McIntyre’s employees work remotely, their HR team needed a way of connecting remote employees and keeping them up to date with company news and announcements. This is where People First came in: the fact that it’s cloud-based means that employees can access the system remotely, via the app, and the org chart feature gives them visibility of organisational structure.

What challenges were you facing before implementing People First?

McIntyre’s previous system was clunky and couldn’t provide the HR team with the data they needed. It was also manual-heavy and time consuming, costing the HR team half a day every time they needed to upload a new starter. With People First, however, McIntyre’s team are saving hours of time every day. Now, it only takes them 15 minutes to upload a new starter to the system.

How was the implementation process?

McIntyre were working towards a tight deadline for the implementation of People First, with only three months to set up the system before go-live. With the support of MHR’s consultants, McIntyre were able to stick to this deadline and deliver the project on time.

Heather explains that MHR’s consultants were “really fantastic”, successfully setting up People First to be the one-stop-shop that McIntyre needed.

How has People First helped internal communications?

Heather explains that “the newsfeed has been a game-changer", allowing employees to post company news to the app rather than via email, making it more engaging. This feature has connected McIntyre’s remote workforce, giving everyone visibility of what’s happening in the organisation. Employees also love using People First to promote wellbeing and fundraising activities as it helps them spread the word with just the click of a button.

How has People First transformed your processes?

Heather says “payroll has been a massive improvement” compared to their old system. Previously, her team wouldn’t be able to see errors until payroll had been run, and they had no transparency or real-time information.

People First’s real-time functionality has transformed their payroll, giving the HR team up to date information and reducing the risk of errors. Support from MHR’s outsourced payroll and service desk teams has also been fantastic, allowing errors or defects to be fixed as soon as possible.

With People First, McIntyre’s HR team has easy access to all their essential data and can pull reports straight away, whether that’s for board reports or tracking KPIs. As a result, the team now has the data needed to support and inform business decisions.

Would you recommend People First?

Heather says that with People First in place, “we’ve been able to make our processes more efficient and effective; for us it’s been absolutely fantastic.”
